Tell us a little about yourself and your background in recruitment?
I started my recruitment career in 2009 working for an international manufacturing & operational excellence headhunter. From here I developed into a principal consultant/team manager, placing manager & director level hires across the UK & Europe. After 5 years, I had the opportunity to co-found a UK based Manufacturing & Engineering business, before being headhunted to join the TS Grale team.
Most of my experience has been within the manufacturing & industrial world, placing management level & skilled professionals in manufacturing, engineering, quality, R&D and opex for UK & Europe wide businesses.
What was your initial contact with TS Grale?
Out of the blue, I got a call on my desk phone from one of the Partners at TS Grale, Jason Saunders. Much like I would call candidates to headhunt for a client.
What were your first impressions?
Straight off the bat, I was impressed. Despite the nature of the recruitment industry you rarely find Directors proactively seeking talent for their business and doing the ground work, so TS Grale in my mind instantly stood out. After meeting the Partners there seemed like an honest, hardworking ethic and without the ego. Jason, Mike and Paul clearly have a lot of passion for manufacturing recruitment and enjoy the business much like myself.
When considering your next career move what were you looking for?
A business with strong growth potential, a vision for the future and career prospects. Equally I was looking for a group of likeminded individuals.
Why did you decide to join TS Grale?
The Partners have a huge amount of industry experience and a great plan for the growth of the business so it is an ideal next step in my career and a place I can continue to learn.
Did you have any reservations about joining and, if so, how did the Partners overcome them?
Not really, naturally it’s always a tough decision weighing a job change but I could see a bright future with TS Grale and was keen to take up a new challenge.
What is your initial remit for the business?
My remit is to identify and deliver management & skilled professionals for UK based industrial manufacturing businesses.
How do you and TS Grale differentiate yourself from the other recruitment propositions out there?
Like myself TS Grale have a lot of maturity and honesty in their approach. Our goal is to take a longer-term approach with the business relationships we develop and always keen to add value outside of vacancy at hand. The more knowledge we have and trust from customers the better we can identify and headhunt the best talent on the market.
What does success look like for you in your career?
Success for me is all about helping TS Grale achieve their growth plan, leading a high performing team and further developing a successful market sector.
How do you spend your time outside of the workplace?
For me most of my down time is spent with my wife, friends & family in Leeds. Equally I’ve got a lot of family and old University friends spanning the length of the UK. I therefore spend quite a bit of time in Chester, Gloucester and London. Where possible I like to get myself to the gym and enjoy the occasional 5Km run at the local Parkrun.
If you had to choose between Rugby and Football, which would you choose?
It’s rugby union for me. I grew up playing it and love watching England international games.
